Stock Photos

If you are an avid photographer and you love taking photos, then you are actually sitting on a virtual gold mine. If you have not heard of this, then you need to learn about this now: how to sell stock photos.

Stock photography is not rocket science and does not require you to be world famous or anything complicated like that. Anyone with a good eye for quality and a fair competency with picture composition can be successful in creating stock photos.

Stock photos are basically photos that are kept "in stock" as opposed to those types of photos that are commissioned specifically for a project. Publishers like stock photos because the end product is already there for them to see and to choose. Hiring photographers to go on assignment is time consuming and sometimes, frustrating, when they cannot produce the shot required.

How to sell stock photos? If you shoot a lot of photos, then you would already have a huge library of images. That is a good start. But if not, it is not difficult getting a nice stockpile of good quality images.

There are two main methods to sell stock photos. The first would be through stock agencies and the second would be to create your own website to sell them. Using stock agencies mean that you do not have to worry about the technical aspects of the selling process. All you need to do is to create your account, and once you are approved, start uploading your photos for sales.

The downside is that these agencies usually have hundreds of thousands of photos and you might find your photos lost in the crowd. Creating your own website avoids the over-crowding effect, but will mean that you need to do some of the technical work. You need to understand how to create a website, get some kind of shopping cart running, get your payment processors (PayPal or some other alternatives) and of course, you need to attract visitors to your website through marketing and advertising.

But which ever method you choose, you need to realize that your many photographs taken over the years, do have value. You should put these values to good use by finding out how to sell stock photos.
